Who am I?

Hello!

My name is Joe Borsch. I am a lighting designer based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am passionate about collaborating with fellow artists who communicate through visual and audible media.

The best works are those that make us examine ourselves and question our concept of reality. I love shows that leave audiences with a fresh perspective. Theater allows me to continue reflecting on my own. The future is theater is not set in stone. And for me, that open boundary is exhilarating. It means that we can continue to reach people who need theater the most, and keep this beautiful gift alive for years to come.

I am also passionate about works that push the boundaries of what society typically envisions as theater. And I love collaborating with other artists to redefine those boundaries. I also enjoy the connection between music, light, and dramaturgy. Whether its on a sidewalk or in a theater, my mind is always moving and thinking in a world of light.

There is a never a day where I have let curiosity or experimentation escape me. I never stop learning.

My Pillars

Communication: Follow through. Show don’t tell. Get to the point. Make it easy. Read between the lines. There is almost always two sides or more to every story.

Respect: Respect yourself, the art form, and those who may have a different perspective. This fresh perspective might just challenge your own in a unique way.

Attention to Detail: Take your time. Don’t cut corners. Budget is a factor, but don’t let it make you sloppy. Treat all shows the same. Give it your all and nothing less.

Life-long learning: Never stop learning. Seek to learn something new every day. Education does not end at the door of a classroom. Be inspired by those around you.
